“Never had a persona. Never needed one. Never will,” the New York native clapped back via social media in 2019 after a music critic wrote about her album Norman F–king Rockwell, “I don’t even relate to one observation you made about the music.”
Lana has let her artistry and creativity do the talking for her, which has shown as she’s transformed from ingenue to respected worldwide talent.

One year later, Lana was full grunge mode with a Guns N’ Roses vintage T-shirt, plaid flannel shirt and blue jeans while performing at the Camp Freddy Holiday Residency at West Hollywood’s Roxy.
Earlier that year she released her second studio album, Born to Die, and gave a controversial interview to the U.K.’s The Guardian where she infamously claimed, “I wish I was dead already,” adding, “I do! I don’t want to have to keep doing this. But I am,” saying that applied to “everything,” including music.
Lana discussed her unhappiness at being a pop star. “Family members will come on the road with me and say: ‘Wow, your life is just like a movie!’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, a really f–ked-up movie.’”

Lana stunned at the British Fashion Awards in a gold and black gown, while keeping her hair simple in a long bob. The year prior, the “Video Games” singer explained how she was trying to get out more from under the isolation of fame.
“The last few years, I’m out all the time: clubs, bars, shows. For years I was more quietly in the mix, always through the back door, do not tell anyone I’m coming. And now I’ve relaxed into it where I’ll just show up. I don’t need a special ticket. I’ll just go sit wherever. It feels a little more like I’m myself again,” she told Pitchfork in 2017.

The “Summertime Sadness” singer reveled she purchased her glittering silver Aidan Mattox dress for the 62nd Grammy Awards during a trip to the mall.
“I had another dress, and then my boyfriend and I were getting a belt for him at the mall, and I saw this and I loved it, so this is a last-minute dress. I tailored it right there,” Lana told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet.

The “Let Me Love You like a Woman” songstress looked ultra-feminine in a yellow lace gown with a belted waistline and a retro hairstyle while attending the Billboard Women in Music event. She accepted the Visionary Award for her nine studio albums and respected career.
“I don’t exactly have a long-term vision at all, but if you were curious, I am very, very happy,” Lana told the audience during her acceptance speech “When I released my first album 14 years ago, the waters were not quite as warm. I’m really happy for everyone who feels like it’s a wonderful time in the culture to be themselves and express themselves. It didn’t feel that way in 2008.”
“I feel like being happy is the ultimate goal, so I did it,” she added.
