  • Trump administration threatens to break up Delta-Aeromexico alliance, restricts flights from Mexico

The Trump Administration Is Throwing a Curveball at Mexican Flights

In a move that feels more like a plot twist in a Hollywood drama than a policy decision, the U.S. government has slapped fresh restrictions on flights headed for Mexico and is hatching a plan to pull out of the Delta‑Aeromexico partnership. This drama is all sparked by the Mexican government’s decision to force airlines to leave the busy Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and flip their operations over to the brand‑new Felipe Ángeles Airport.

Why the U.S. Is Throwing a Fit

    • Vulnerability of U.S. airlines – Any shift in Mexican air traffic patterns could hit Delta’s revenue streams hard.
    • Alliance anxiety – With Aeromexico pivoting away from AICM, the partnership feels like it’s on shaky ground.
    • Protection of domestic flight routes – U.S. officials want to keep their airlines’ routes stable and not get tangled in Mexican airport politics.

What’s on the Table for Delta and Aeromexico?

If Mexico continues to push airlines out of AICM, the Delta‑Aeromexico deal could be in serious trouble:

“If we have to move everything to Felipe Ángeles, we might have to break up the partnership,” one insider mentions. In other words, the alliance could either split or shift to a less convenient hub, creating a cascade of operational headaches for both sides.

    Feel the Heat Then?

While the Trump administration’s plays might spark outrage among Mexican pilots and airport staff, it also highlights one thing: ambitious airports and airline alliances can cause a real buzz when they don’t align. Flights that were once smooth as butter might now be a bit more ‘turbulent’ for travelers and carriers alike.

    Bottom line

Delta and Aeromexico need to decide whether they’ll weather the change or dance the exit choreography. In the meantime, Mexican flights, U.S. regulations, and the whole airline alliance circus are filling up the skies and the headlines with one big question: Can this partnership survive the airport upheaval?

When Airports Turn Into Battlefields: The Latest U.S.-Mexico Flight Drama

Fasten your seatbelts, folks. The Trump-era drone that muted the skies is back, and it’s making a loud noise over Mexican airspace. Washington’s new twist on flights from Mexico is set to put a stop to the long-standing partnership between Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico—thanks to a whiff of Mexican regulations that moved passengers out of the famed Benito Juárez International Airport and onto the newer Felipe Ángeles International Airport, 50 kilometers away.

Why the U.S. is Standing Up

    • Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy pointed fingers at Mexico’s “unequal play” that gives domestic carriers an unfair edge.
    • Duffy accused Biden and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg of “deliberately allowing Mexico to break the bilateral aviation agreement.”
    • The U.S. is sending a clear message: America First means fairness, not flight tricks.

    Mexico’s New Airport Shuffle

Mexico’s move forced carriers to relocate to Felipe Ángeles—a brand-new hub that’s a stone’s throw (well, 50 km) from the heart of Mexico City. While the new airport boasts modern facilities, the shift left many airlines scrambling, and the U.S. quick to call it out.

    Who’s Buying In?

    • More than 40 million Americans flew to Mexico last year—making it the top foreign destination for U.S. travelers.
    • All Mexican passenger, cargo, and charter airlines now need to submit flight schedules to the U.S. Transportation Department and get the green light.
    • This rule will stay in place until the U.S. is satisfied that Mexico is treating U.S. carriers fairly.
    The Ripple Effect

While it’s unclear exactly how these restrictions will shake up the broader trade war or tariffs, the conversation is heating up. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s spokesperson remains tight-lipped, and she didn’t comment on the new move during her two speeches on Saturday.

    Bottom Line

Zipping from Mexico City to U.S. destinations just got a bit more political. It’s a reminder that international agreements aren’t just about saving money—they’re about keeping the skies fair for everyone. Let’s hope the negotiations fly smoother than ever before.

Airlines likely to fight for continued partnership

Delta & Aeromexico vs. the U.S. Transportation Department: The Battle Over a Fly‑by‑Night Partnership

Picture this: It’s 2016, Delta and Aeromexico join forces, promising swifter routes and juicy profits for both the U.S. and Mexico. Fast‑forward to last year, the U.S. Transportation Department (DOT) throws a curveball, calling for the partnership’s demise. But the airlines? Not so fast.

    Why the Alliance Matters

Delta and Aeromexico argue that tearing up the deal is a slap in the face to both airlines and the people who travel between the two countries. They claim “cutting the ropes would slash almost 800 million dollars from tourism funding and wipe out roughly two dozen flight routes,” leaving consumers, jobs, and regional economies in limbo.

    Delta’s (and Aeromexico’s) Take‑Away

    • Delta’s Statement: “Discontinuing the approval will cause severe damage to travelers, U.S. jobs and communities, and the cross‑border competition we’ve built.”
    • Aeromexico’s Response: They’re reviewing the order and promise a joint reply soon— probably before the coffee finishes steaming.
What’s on the Table? $800 Million of Impact

According to their latest filings, removing direct flights would scare away 140,000 U.S. tourists and 90,000 Mexican travelers. Imagine all those missed sunset hikes, souvenir shop visits, and, yes, those awkward “I forgot my luggage” airport stories. Vendors, hotel managers, and local businesses would instantly feel the cold side of the economy—like a season‑long layover of a gone‑wrong flight.

Verdict: The Deadline’s June, the Drama’s Now

While the DOT’s order won’t bite until October, Delta and Aeromexico are already flying against it—engaging lawyers, drafting memos, and shouting “One plane’s not going anywhere!” They’re determined to keep the skies (and profits) open.

In a world where airlines can re‑pack their routes faster than a TSA scanner, this showdown reminds us that commerce, culture, and the promise of a good flight are tightly intertwined. Stay tuned, because this story will continue to unfold: a saga of bilateral cooperation, economic fallout, and the fight to keep travelers connecting over borders.

Guinness World Records turns 70 and reveals unclaimed record titles

As Guinness World Records celebrates its 70th anniversary, keep in mind that there are quite a few record titles to be claimed…

Guinness World Records is celebrating its 70th anniversary and to mark the publication of their first volume on 27 August 1955, the organisation has unveiled 70 unclaimed records.
Craig Glenday, GWR editor-in-chief, said: “As we mark the 70th anniversary of the release of our first edition back in the 1950s, we’re proud to be building on 70 amazing years as the global curator of superlative facts and achievements.”

“We’ve seen so many iconic moments, the most amazing feats of strength and skill and endurance from talent across the globe and long may it continue,” he added. “We’re now looking forward and celebrating the current – and next – generation of record-breakers.”
Here are some of our favourite new records that are just begging to be broken (read: tempting achievements the Euronews Culture team are seriously contemplating attempting):

Most whoopee cushions sat on in one minute
    Furthest distance bottle flip
    Most high-fives in 30 seconds
    Fastest 400-metre sack race
Fastest time to build a five-storey playing-card pyramid
Most kisses in 30 seconds by a pair
Most leapfrog jumps in one hour by a team of two
Most seat drops on a trampoline in one hour
Most anchovies eaten in a minute
Most shoelaces tied in a bow in one minute (team of two)
Most stackable potato-based crisps eaten in one minute
Most table tennis balls held in one hand
Most T-shirts put on in 30 seconds (individual)
Fastest time to ascend the height of Everest by bicycle

Ok, maybe that last one is a bit too ambitious – but the T-shirts and the anchovies feel like they’re well within our wheelhouse. Watch this space.
For those of you wondering, the inspiration for the Guinness World Records book came from a debate at a shooting party in the early 1950s in County Wexford, Ireland, which was attended by Sir Hugh Beaver, then-managing director of the Guinness Brewery.
Sir Hugh and his hosts debated the following question: “What’s the fastest game bird in Europe?”

They failed to find an answer to that question in any reference book. So, in 1954, Sir Hugh set up a Guinness promotion based on the settling of pub arguments. He recruited researchers from Fleet Street to compile a book of facts and figures, before publishing the first volume of the Guinness Book Of Records.
Since then, the franchise has sold more than 155 million books worldwide, and we now know who has the largest collection of Spice Girls memorabilia (Elizabeth West, UK, with more than 5,000 pieces), that American Great Dane Zeus holds the title for the tallest dog (1.046 metres), and that the length of the longest female tongue is 9.75cm (Chanel Tapper, US).
    Happy 70th, GWR.

  • Recruit the Perfect Team

    Recruit the Perfect Team

Recruiting in the Real World: A Quick Guide

Let’s tackle the awkward truths that most hiring teams face:

    • Good folks are hesitant to relocate – and when they do, they’re chanting for outrageous wages.
    • In IT support, the tech jungle is wild. Candidates deep‑dive into one gadget, then stumble trying to juggle the rest.
    • Veterans of big corporations are used to micromanagement grooves; they often get lost in the uncharted waters of small‑business autonomy.

Lesson from the Cell Management Wild‑Ride

Picture this: a decade‑ago production floor buzzing about “Cell Management.” Leaders stamped “Cell Manager” onto resumes, dreaming of zilch MDs guiding micro‑teams. Sounds glamorous, right? In reality, nobody truly had that all‑around skill sauce. After half a dozen years, we were back to a Production Superintendent with a shiny new name. Big lesson: titles are nice, but function matters.

How to Make It Work for SMEs

Think of recruitment like a savvy entrepreneur: profile the talent pool, sniff out what they crave, locate them, and estimate the price tag. Treat that data like the secret sauce and craft roles that fit.

    Consider these proven playbooks:

    1. Automation is the New Remote Worker: Slash the headcount by piloting bots, but pay a few of the smartest humans to keep the machine humming.
    2. Outsourcing for the Nitty‑Gritty: Give tough niche tasks to specialists and keep your core team lean.
    3. Intern Hires for Fresh Blood: Engage grad students for 3–6 month gigs. Their wages stay modest, your company gets eager collaborators, and you break that “no experience equals no job” myth.

    Final Takeaway

There’s a gold mine of talent out there – ready to dive into any challenge if given the chance. As business owners, the real task is blurring the borders, spotting those gems, and weaving them into a workshop that rocks.

Health and Nutrition Benefits of Sesame Seeds – Health Cages

Tiny but mighty, sesame seeds have been a key part of global cuisines for thousands of years. From Middle Eastern tahini to Asian stir-fries and American burger buns, these seeds add more than flavor and crunch. Over time, their reputation as a nutritional powerhouse has only grown, with more people reaching for sesame seeds as a smart way to boost their diets. Read on to find out more about the health and nutrition benefits of sesame seeds.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

    Nutrient Profile of Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds pack a nutritional punch in every spoonful. They offer a mix of healthy fats, quality plant protein, fiber, and a range of key vitamins and minerals which support many parts of our health. The seeds come in two main varieties: hulled and unhulled.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})
    • Hulled sesame seeds have the outer shell removed, giving them a softer texture and milder taste.
    • Unhulled sesame seeds keep their outer husk, resulting in higher calcium content and a more earthy flavor, but a crunchier bite.

For a detailed breakdown, a tablespoon of whole dried sesame seeds contains about 1.6g protein, 4.5g fat, and 51 calories, plus plenty of key nutrients.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

Rich Source of Healthy Fats and Protein

Sesame seeds are a natural source of plant-based protein and fats that help support energy and cell function. Around 60% of their content is fat, largely the good unsaturated kind. Their protein (about 20% by weight) includes key amino acids, making them an easy way to boost protein intake in vegetarian meals.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

Essential Minerals: Calcium, Magnesium, Iron, and More

One standout feature of sesame seeds is their mineral content. They are packed with calcium (especially the unhulled variety), magnesium, iron, and zinc. These minerals play important roles in bone strength, immune defense, and oxygen transport. Even a small serving can make a meaningful difference in daily nutrient totals.

    Unique Phytonutrients: Lignans and Antioxidants

Sesame seeds contain rare plant compounds, including lignans like sesamin and sesamolin. These are unique to sesame and provide antioxidant power. Antioxidants help reduce the buildup of damaging molecules in the body, supporting overall health.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

Major Health Benefits Supported by Science

Sesame seeds do more than fill nutritional gaps—research links them to real health benefits.

    Heart Health and Cholesterol Management

Scientific studies suggest sesame seeds can help lower total and LDL cholesterol, thanks to their healthy fats and unique lignans. Regular intake may support steady blood pressure, protect artery walls, and promote cardiovascular well-being. You can learn about how these seeds affect heart health in more detail from.

Support for Bone and Immune Health

With a rich supply of calcium, magnesium, and zinc, sesame seeds are helpful for building and maintaining strong bones. These same minerals, alongside copper and selenium, also support immune system performance.

    Potential Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Effects

Lignans and other antioxidants in sesame can help reduce inflammation and protect against cell stress. Researchers have documented these effects, suggesting that regular consumption could be one way to support long-term wellness.

How to Add Sesame Seeds to Your Diet Safely

Easy Ways to Incorporate Sesame Seeds into Meals

Sesame seeds are easy to use. Try these simple ideas:

    • Sprinkle them on salads or roasted veggies
    • Add to oatmeal or yogurt
    • Blend into smoothies or energy bars
    • Mix into bread or muffin batters

For something bold, whip up a classic tahini dip or toss with noodles for a savory sesame flavor.

    Considerations: Allergies and Antinutrients

Sesame allergies are real and can cause reactions in some people. Always start with small amounts if you’ve never tried them before. Also, sesame seeds contain antinutrients (phytates and oxalates) that can block mineral absorption. Roasting or soaking helps reduce these, making nutrients easier for your body to use.

    Conclusion

Sesame seeds are more than a garnish. With healthy fats, plant protein, an impressive lineup of minerals, and unique antioxidants, they make a smart addition to almost any diet. Enjoy them sprinkled, blended, or baked, and discover how these tiny seeds can deliver big health benefits. Give sesame seeds a place in your pantry and unlock their power for yourself.

Discover the Timeless Majesty of the Giza Pyramids: An Epic Journey Through Ancient Egypt

The Giza Pyramids: A Testament to Ancient Ingenuity

The Giza Pyramids are among the most remarkable and mysterious monuments in the world. Located on the Giza Plateau just outside of Cairo, Egypt, this trio of pyramids is one of the last remaining wonders of the ancient world. These pyramids were constructed over 4,500 years ago during Egypt’s Old Kingdom period. Built to honor and house the pharaohs in the afterlife, they represent the sheer brilliance of ancient Egyptian architecture and culture. Tourists, historians, and researchers continue to flock to Giza to marvel at these structures and understand their symbolic and architectural significance.

Great Pyramid of Giza: A Colossal Marvel of Stone and Geometry

At the center of the Giza complex stands the Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or Cheops. It is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids, and its dimensions continue to amaze modern engineers. The Great Pyramid of Giza height originally reached about 146.6 meters (481 feet), though today it stands slightly shorter at 138.8 meters (455 feet) due to the loss of the outer casing stones. This towering structure was constructed with an estimated 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5 tons.

  • What Your Smile Says About You and Why Singaporeans Are Quietly Turning To Veneers – Health Cages

What Your Smile Says About You and Why Singaporeans Are Quietly Turning To Veneers – Health Cages

It starts with a glance in the mirror. A fractured tooth from an inconsiderate bite years ago. That single incisor stained by coffee that never quite responds to whitening toothpaste. Or perhaps a gap that was cute as a teenager, but now makes one self-conscious in client meetings.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

In Singapore, where trust is often constructed on implicit clues, smiles speak quiet stories. And over the past few years, more and more Singaporeans have been looking to rewrite those stories with one subtle, life-changing solution: veneers Singapore.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

The Smile as a Social Signal

We don’t talk about it much, but we all judge, interpret, evaluate. The smile of an individual plays a disproportionate role in creating first impressions. Research suggests that people with well-aligned and good-looking teeth are perceived to be more successful, honest, and even smarter.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

Although that is superficial, it’s natural. One of the oldest manners of non-verbal communication is a warm, symmetrical smile. And when that smile is withheld either out of embarrassment or insecurity it can influence everything from friendships to job interviews.

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

    The Unspoken Dental Dilemma

In dental clinics across Singapore, there is a quietly observed trend among practitioners. Patients are not necessarily coming in with cavities or toothaches but say

“I want my teeth more balanced.”

    (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({})

“This one tooth makes me self-conscious about smiling.”

“I don’t want it to look artificial. Just… better.”

These are not vanity requests. They’re highly personal decisions made after decades of lip-smiling or photo-digital touching up before posting.

    Why Veneers?

Veneers emerge not as the first option, but occasionally following months or even years of self-reflection. What makes them different is their malleability. They do not require braces, surgery, or decades of therapy. They are discreet enough to fix flaws, yet powerful enough to reinvent a smile and by extension, a person’s faith in themselves.

They are also where art meets functionality. Cosmetic dentists aren’t just filling teeth, they’re creating balance, mimicking the refraction of light, and considering the shape of one’s face when designing a smile that feels and appears natural, not forced.

The Singapore Context: Discretion Over Drama

Subtlety is valued in Singapore as blaring cosmetic procedures typically raise an eyebrow. Good dental procedures, however? Of course, that goes without notice. They merely want their smile, but an improved version.

For most working professionals, especially those with customer-facing jobs, veneers are a low-key confidence booster. No public declarations, no time wasted, no grand reveal. Just a quiet tweak that makes them feel more together.

A Gentle Reminder: It’s Your Smile, Not a Trend

What distinguishes veneers from other cosmetic trends is how long they last. Unlike filler or fashion, it’s not about chasing transitory beauty ideals. Done well, veneers are a personal decision to reclaim control over how you show up in the world.

And one doesn’t have to be ultra-rich to make that choice. The dental scene in Singapore has shifted, with more clinics having individual consultations and open prices making cosmetic enhancements affordable for ordinary folks.

    A Final Word

The next time you notice someone’s easy smile at a networking event or in a photograph, it might not be a coincidence. It might be intention, silent, measured intention to be their best.

In Singapore, where believing in oneself is key, veneers have gone unobtrusively from merely a dental solution. They’re merely one part of a larger transformation in how individuals are investing in their perception of themselves, not to awe, but to finally cease questioning their own face.

Sometimes the smallest changes pay the greatest emotional dividends. And if you think about it, what better place to begin that change than with the part of yourself that initially greets the world with your smile.

Trump On 'Lowlife, Unpatriotic' Bolton: 'Going To Find Out' If He Leaked Classified Info

Update(1418ET): President Trump’s first comments since the early morning FBI raid on John Bolton’s Maryland home and D.C. office haven’t disappointed. Trump made clear he’s no fan, but that he didn’t personally get involved in the crackdown over allegations of mishandling or keeping classified documents.

“I’m not a fan of John Bolton. He’s a real sort of lowlife… I know nothing about it,” the president said of his own former national security adviser from the first term, who he’s long described suffers major Trump derangement syndrome.

Trump repeated that he tries to “stay out of that stuff” and that he “purposefully” didn’t want to get involved when commenting on the morning raid on Bolton’s home. The mainstream media has been quick to assume this must be a politically-motivated action against Bolton coming from the top of the administration:

“I know nothing about it. I just saw it this morning. I tell Pam [Bondi], and I tell the group, I don’t want to know about it. You have to do what you have to do,” Trump said.

“He is not a smart guy. But he could be a very unpatriotic guy. We’re going to find out,” Trump said.

The president then noted that his own Mar-a-Lago estate got raided in 2022, over the handling of presidential and classified documents: “They went through everything you can imagine,” Trump said.

CNN has reported the following new confirmation as follows: “The FBI conducted a court-authorized search at former national security adviser John Bolton’s home and office as part of a renewed investigation into whether he disclosed classified information in his 2020 book, according to two people familiar with the matter.”

And more: “CNN observed FBI personnel at Bolton’s house in the Washington, DC, area on Friday morning. They were seen speaking to a person on the porch of the house, and at least four to six agents were seen going inside. Some of the agents took bags out of the vehicles to bring inside, but nothing was seen coming out of the residence.”

The two have traded barbs for years, with Trump also highlighting that Bolton is a ‘sick’ neocon and many other epithets:

“Many of the ridiculous statements he attributes to me were never made, pure fiction,” Trump said in a social media post June 18, 2020. “Just trying to get even for firing him like the sick puppy he is!”

And there was this memorable one:

Wacko John Bolton’s ‘exceedingly tedious’(New York Times) book is made up of lies & fake stories. Said all good about me, in print, until the day I fired him,” Trump said in a separate social media post on June 18, 2020. “A disgruntled boring fool who only wanted to go to war. Never had a clue, was ostracized & happily dumped. What a dope!

    * * *

In a bombshell of a development, federal agents conducted a raid on the Maryland residence of former National Security Advisor John Bolton on Friday morning, according to various breaking sources.

One source connected to the investigation has described that the search was aimed at locating potentially classified documents that authorities suspect Bolton may still have in his possession. There are reports that his D.C. office was also raided and searched.

    Via Fox News

There are no indicators as of yet that Bolton, who was Trump’s national security adviser from 2018 to 2019, has been arrested or taken into custody.

“NO ONE is above the law,” FBI Director Kash Patel posted to X Friday morning, but without giving direct reference to the Bolton house raid. “FBI agents on mission.”

According to NY Post, which first revealed the raid:

Federal agents went to Bolton’s house in Bethesda, Md., at 7 a.m. in an investigation ordered by FBI Director Kash Patel, a Trump administration official told The Post.

…The probe — which is said to involve classified documents — was first launched years ago, but the Biden administration shut it down “for political reasons,” according to a senior US official.

The FBI are reportedly sorting through papers and boxes:

Trump has been a longtime fierce critic of Bolton, after Bolton had long ago started going after Trump. Just this week, Bolton was on CNN and prime news shows blasting Trump’s dealings with Putin and the Ukraine negotiations.

“I don’t think there’s a peace deal anywhere in the near future,” he said while criticizing the commander-in-chief’s tactics while recently speaking to CNN.

    Via Google Maps/NY Post

Back in January Bolton had been among former top officials, and Trump adversaries, to get their costly security protections stripped.

Axios also recalls that Bolton wrote in a foreword to his memoir that was published last year the words: “a mountain of facts demonstrates that Trump is unfit to be President.”

Publication of the book had been delayed so that the White House could review its content for any potential security breaches or disclosure of sensitive information.

Mainstream media is being quick to suggest the house raid is an act of retribution. Bolton was vocal in his criticism of the president after working in the first Trump administration. Trump has aggressively used the power of the presidency to punish political foes,” Axios observes.

Mischa Barton: From Teens to Time‑Traveling Celeb

Remember the teen drama that had everyone talking about “The O.C.”? That was the show that turned Mischa Barton into a household name at age 17. Fast‑forward to today, and she’s had a rollercoaster of a career—and a few too many comebacks. Let’s dive into the highs, lows, and everything in between.

Early Sparks (and a few off‑Broadway blazes)

    • Childhood on Stage: Even before “The O.C.” made waves, Mischa was a small‑screen star, gracing off‑Broadway productions.
    • First TV Snowballs: At nine, she wore a white shirt and a million‑dollar stare in “All My Children.”
    • Cartoon Chaos: In the late 90s, she spilled voice talent into KaBlam!, signing up for ten episodes of giggles.

    Movie Mayhem & Night‑life Adventures

In the same year she debuted on TV, Mischa snuck into The Sixth Sense (yes, the psychic ghost movie). And oh‑my‑god, Notting Hill—she danced alongside Hugh Grant. These roles were the early chapters of a long, sometimes tragic, story.

    Metropolitan Memories: “The O.C.”

At 17, she landed the role of Marissa Cooper—teenage drama at its finest. At season 3’s cliffhanger, Marissa met an abrupt, dramatic end. The show’s producers later told the press, “We had to kill a character to keep the season fresh.”

Later, Mischa said she felt “unprotected” by some male co‑workers. She’s spoken about the “bullying” that may have contributed to her character’s exit.

Life After the Spotlight (and a few wrong turns)

    • Legal Lame‑Dysfunction: 2007 – Mischa was pulled over in LA, got arrested for not signaling, and found marijuana in her SUV. The cops said “no license, drugs in the car.” She blew her whistle on the experience.
    • Probation & Programs: 2008 – She received three years of probation and was sent for alcohol education.
    • Indie Films & Breakups: 2008 – She starred in “Closing the Ring” and “Assassination of a High School President.” She also duked out in “Virgin Territory.”
    • Psychiatric Pause: Years later, she was admitted to a psychiatric ward after a mental‑health breakdown. She heard people say, “She was under enormous pressure.”

    Dance, Reality & Sopa‑Soap Spurts

2016: Dancing With the Stars season 22 saw Mischa get “tapped out” in week three. She called it a “popularity contest” and was happy to exit.

She had a cameo on MTV’s The Hills: New Beginnings in season 1—no return in season 2.

More recently, she guest-starred in the Aussie soap Neighbours. After the show aired, she reflected that the time had “softened”—there’s a nostalgic distance from those earlier days.

    What’s Next? Time‑Traveling or Tangled?

Mischa’s future is a mix of nostalgic roles and fresh ventures. Despite the challenges, she remains a charismatic presence—turning drama into storytelling gold. If you’re still remembering her teen heartbreaks, check out the new Neighbours episode—maybe it will feel like a time‑travel adventure.

Stay tuned, because nothing about Mischa is ever ordinary. Thank you for riding the wave of her ups, downs, and everything in the middle.

Mischa’s Wild, Tiny-Tale of Stage and Screen

Picture a little Mischa, backpack in tow, stepping onto the stage of that quirky off‑Broadway theatre. Even before she could kids‑read, she was already stealing the spotlight.

It All Began on the Road to Broadway

    • Bold Beginnings: Off‑Broadway productions were her first playground. Misty lights, loud applause, and a tiny fearless voice.
    • Career in the Making: By being born into a theatrical scene, she learned the art of timing and stage presence early.

    Then Came the Big‑Screen Victory

At only nine years old, Mischa made her grand entrance in the daytime drama All My Children. Imagine a child who could talk to a soap‑opera audience like it was a secret conversation, and everyone’d say “Bravo!”

    Cartoon Show Cred

Fast-forward to the late ’90s: from 1996 to 1997, she hopped into ten episodes of the animated sitcom KaBlam!. Her voice filled the room, and the cartoons were richer because of her gift.

In a nutshell: Mischa’s early career felt like a whirlwind of laughter, applause, and giggles, proving that talent doesn’t wait for an age— it rolls out on stage and screen, no matter how small the performer.

The Sixth Sense – A Brief but Brain‑Tickling Appearance

Picture a world where a serial killer eliminates a subliminal echo of sanity—yeah, that’s The Sixth Sense. Mischa snagged a small, almost whisper‑soft role in this psychological gem. Though tucked into a tiny corner of the storyline, it was enough to get her name buzzing in casting rooms.

Notting Hill – From Surreal to Sweeten

Fast‑forward a few months and Mischa was swapping the eerie corridors for a charming lane in Notting Hill. This simple rom‑com tossed her into a lighthearted universe full of tea, rain, and a love story that’s still cozy‑familiar to audiences. Randall Michelson: WireImage’s Visionary on the Move

    The Human Behind the Pixels

When you think of WireImage—a powerhouse in the world of licensed imagery—most people picture glossy stock photos, not the man steering the ship. That man is Randall Michelson, the chief architect puzzling through the daily image shuffle and sprinkling a little whimsy into the operation.

    What Sparks His Drive

    • “Seeing the world through a lens is my hobby, but turning that hobby into a thriving business is my passion.”
    • Inventive branding: he’s re-branded WireImage’s workflow tools to keep the creative spark alive.
    • Together with his team, he’s implemented AI-powered tag suggestions, making photo searches as easy as sliding a thumb on a tiny digital pad.
    • He’s known for diving into the finest details—think triple-checking a file format before it goes live.

    Key Milestones in 2024

In the past twelve months, Randall steered WireImage to:

    • Introduce a mobile app that lets photographers upload and tag images straight from their pocket.
    • Launch a partnership with a major advertising agency, resulting in over 70,000 new high‑resolution images available for creative projects worldwide.
    • Roll out a community forum where print‑makers, social media managers, and hobbyists can swap tips and best practices.
    • Achieve a 30% increase in annual subscription renewals—because people love knowing they’ll get fresh content delivered without haggling.

Not All Serious: The Light‑Hearted Side

When the camera flashes and the deadlines loom, Randall’s secret weapon is comedy. He’s posted memes about “when the client demands a green‑background masterpiece but you’re on a farm.” And his coffee ritual? A brisk “same‑coffee‑double‑shot, no sugar” routine that’s almost a ritual louder than his high‑standards.

Even if you’re not a photo‑enthusiast, Randall’s knack for blending humor with professional acumen turns ordinary image‑library management into a curiosity hub. His mantra is simple: “Let’s keep shooting for something far beyond the pixel threshold” (and yes, that’s a nod, as you’d call a flying drone that’s getting a bit too up there).

    The Roller‑Coaster of Early Stardom

When Mischa was just 17, she landed the lead role in the hit TV hit The O.C., stepping into the character of Marissa Cooper. She was practically a Hollywood starlet in school halls and cafeteria lines.

    One‑Day Therapy vs. Life‑Long Healing

In an October 2023 chat with The Times, she gave us a glimpse into the long‑term costs of fame:

    • “You can go to therapy every day for the rest of your life,” she said.
    • But the real damage? It’s the emotional score that sticks around, especially from those early twenties posts. “It just doesn’t go away overnight.”
The Emotional Reality of Growing Up on Camera

Mischa’s experience is a hard‑knock reminder that early fame might feel glamorous, but it also comes with a deep, sometimes invisible, toll. It’s not just about the perks—there’s a cost that can stay with you long after the curtain falls.

When the Crown Falls: Marissa Cooper’s Shocking Exit

For four wild seasons, Mischa Barton’s Marissa Cooper stole the spotlight on The O.C.. And then—boom!—she was gone in the Season 3 finale, leaving fans with a gut‑heavy cliffhanger that still echoes in their dreams.

Why Did the Show Kill a Fan Favorite?

Executive Producer Stephanie Savage spilled the beans to Vanity Fair, saying it was a tremendous pressure to deliver drama at that level. “We had to do something enormous for Season 4,” she told the magazine. “If we wanted to knock the next season out of the park, the only way was to pull a dramatic stunt like that.”

    • They wanted a top‑budget showdown.
    • They wanted fans to jump out of their seats.
    • They knew Marissa was a drag‑ging dynasty and could crumble under a sudden kiss‑of‑death.

    Behind the Scenes: Mischa’s Take

When E! News asked Mischa in 2021 why she didn’t return for the final season, she painted a raw picture: “There was a lot of bullying from some of the men on set, and I felt totally unprotected.” Her candid words revealed the emotional turmoil that prompted her exit.

Mischa’s story reminds us that, even on glossy set walls, drama can be both exciting on screen and exhausting behind the camera.

    Mischa’s Wild 2007 Ride

Picture this: it’s 2007, the sun is scorching over Los Angeles, and Mischa is cruising in an SUV that’s definitely feeling a bit rebellious. She forgets to signal before a turn—classic left‑turn blunder—and ends up straddling two lanes like a traffic medley. The cops pull her over, stack the paperwork, and—plot twist—realize she’s not licensed.

Prosecutors claim they found marijuana and a controlled substance inside the vehicle. The verdict? A whole new chapter in the “Mischa’s Life” saga.

    Talking About It

    • Mischa, to Nylon (via E!), admits it was a “low point for me.” She says she never could’ve imagined getting arrested.
    • Later, she weighed in: “That was a low point for me. I never, ever would have thought I would be arrested.”

    The 2008 Consequences

    • Three years of probation.
    • Mandatory enrollment in an alcohol education program.
    • Some weeks later, Mischa’s life reflects a mix of drama: she’s a #1 on her to‑watch list.

While The Law Was On Her Trail

Regardless, she didn’t put her acting dreams on hold. In 2008, Mischa appeared in:

    • Closing the Ring – veteran audiences love the quirky tale.
    • Virgin Territory – proving that first‑time adventures are anyone’s business.
    • Assassination of a High School President – picture school halls with a twist of mystery.

    All in All…

Mischa’s story is a sharp reminder that a little misstep can send you to court and that a “no‑license” ride can turn your life into a mix of hurdles and Hollywood moments. It’s a tale of taking a wrong turn, learning the hard way, and still chasing dreams while keeping humor and heart on the wheels.

    Mischa’s Emotional Ups‑And‑Down Ride

For years, Mischa kept her mental‑health battles hidden behind a brave smile. “It was a full‑on breakdown,” she confided in People, describing a period when the weight of life felt like someone was squeezing her chest with an invisible hand.

    What Went Down?

    • She was crushing under unimaginable pressure—both personal and professional.
    • Thoughts that seemed to spiral out of control took over, leaving her feeling dizzy and out of options.
    • In the end, demand for help escalated to the point of an emergency.

Turning Point – The Psychiatric Ward

In a decisive move, Mischa checked herself into a psychiatric ward. Rather than a quick fix, this was a mindful pause—time to breathe, be examined, and start the healing process.

    Why It Matters

Her candid interview offers a touchpoint for anyone who feels swamped by expectations. She reminds us that even stars can feel buried in the darkness and that seeking help is a sign of true strength.

Mischa’s Dancing Debacle: A Love‑Hate Story of the Ballroom

Back in 2016, the Television Authority turned mischa into a season‑22 star—though it wasn’t with the kind of applause you’d expect from a dance show. She was up against a squad of pros and hunky partners, and in only three weeks she was sent home.

Was the Show Really About Dancing?

In a candid chat with The Ringer, Mischa spilled the truth: “It was all a popularity contest. It was awful. I was so glad to get kicked off.” That line sums up a television production that feels less about pirouettes and more about people tapping their phones. If you’ve ever watched a show where the choreographer seems to be checking social media metrics instead of teaching you a basic waltz, you’ll know exactly what it’s like.

Why Everyone Loved (and Hated) the Show

    • Too Much Drama: The judges’ snark was on point, but most viewers felt the real drama was the brackets of fan voting.
    • part-a-Party: Crowd favorites often weren’t the best dancers—only the ones chanting “Go, Mischa!” got the votes.
    • The “Kicked Off” Moment: For Mischa, the elimination felt like winning a game—no heartbreak, just a sigh of relief!
What If She Didn’t Have To Leave the Stage?

Mischa would probably still have lived in a world where her anchor-taming talent shines—the one that’s only 15 minutes of viewing. Of course, she’d keep dancing the way she loves it: flowy, flirty and floral.

Takeaway: The Real Dance is About Feeling Something Real, Not Likes

Although the show was a whirlwind of applause and laughter, it turned out the most engaging performance was Mischa’s honest reaction. In the end, she decided that getting dumped didn’t feel like a defeat at all—just an honest reminder to focus her energy where it mattered most.

Barton’s One‑Shot Splash on the Hills

When MTV launched The Hills: New Beginnings, Barton decided to appear as herself—no scripted role, no disguise, just straight-up reality. Her debut was an instant treat for fans craving authenticity.

    Why Her Cameo Stood Out

    • Unfiltered Charm: Barton brought rawness to the screen, ditching the usual air‑brushed drama.
    • Instant Connection: By playing herself, she kept the vibe honest, making viewers feel like part of her story.

    Season 2: The Vanishing Act

Despite the buzz, Barton didn’t stick around for the second season. No grand exits, no plot twists—she simply stepped away, leaving fans to wonder what missed chapters might have been.

    Takeaway

In a world crowded with over‑edited starlets, Barton’s brief on‑screen moment reminds us that authenticity can shine brighter than any crafted persona. Even a handful of episodes can leave a lasting impression—and a prompt to imagine what could’ve been.

Mischa McCall Reboots “Neighbours” with a Touch of The O.C. Charm

From California Dreamin’ to Down‑Under Dramedy

Mischa McCall, the 37‑year‑old star of the hit U.S. drama The O.C., has just made headlines by popping in as a guest on the long‑running Australian soap Neighbours. The recent season premiere saw her stepping onto the iconic set, and she’s already saying the whole experience feels nostalgic and a bit like a warm hug from the past.

Why the Aussie Soap Feels Like a Friendly Nostalgia Trip

    • “Our attitudes have softened,” McCall told Variety. In other words, the serious drama vibes of the past are now muted, giving the show a feel‑good, “back‑in‑the‑day” atmosphere.
    • She added, “Now it does have a certain sense of nostalgia to it and you’ve put some distance between the events of the time and now.” Think of it as a cozy time‑travel experience where the old school meets the new coffee‑freight culture.
    • Fans can expect Mischa to sprinkle her old Californian swagger across the familiar Aussie town reputation, reminding viewers that great storytelling transcends borders.

    What’s Happening Inside the Episode?

The episode showcases Mischa’s quick wit and signature style as she waltzes into the bustling streets of Erinsborough. While the plot centers around a quirky milestone (a community bake‑off that goes a little too awry), Mischa’s cameo gives it a fresh, almost “The O.C.”‑inspired twist—think elegant coffee shop vibes meet Aussie street life. Viewers will notice the scene’s easy‑going humor, with subtle nods to her own on‑screen journey.

    Ratings & Reception

Despite Neighbours traditionally drifting from drama to light-hearted family tales, the Mischa injection has reportedly bumped up the show’s ratings. Fans are raving that she “brought a dash of rom‑p” to the episode, and critics are calling her appearance “a refreshing blend of past and present.”

    Takeaway

Mischa McCall’s brief stint in Neighbours reminds us that the heart of great TV lies in blending nostalgia with fresh dynamics. Her commentary shows that, whether on the West Coast or down the Southern Cross, audiences are always keen to re‑experience their cherished moments—with a modern, cheeky touch.

Who is Brenden Aaronson: The Story of a Promising Football Player

You can already guess who made the above statement. Brenden Aaronson, now a force to be reckoned with in the MLS, started his football journey when he was ten years old. And from his days at Union Juniors, CONCACAF, and the Premier League, he has had no other ambition than to be a better version of himself with the next game.

Considering the fact that he came from a family of footballers, one can even conclude that he probably had the round leather game in his blood.

His outstanding performance on the field earned him the nickname Medford Messi,’ which was the fans’ attempt to describe how his terrific skills resemble those of the legendary soccer star, Lionel Messi. Medford was his hometown, and Messi the personality that he mirrored. Hence, the name.

Tax the rich: Where in Europe are people most in favour of taxing the super wealthy and why?

Nine out of ten people globally want to tax the super-rich to pay for climate action and public services, according to a recent survey. But where in Europe are people the most supportive of taxing the wealthy?

With inequality increasing, taxing the rich is high on the agenda, and the wealthiest individuals are often criticised for contributing less to public finances than ordinary taxpayers.
A recent study commissioned by NGOs Oxfam and Greenpeace found that globally, people in the Philippines are the most supportive of taxing the super-rich.

In turn, this allows for increased government spending on public services and the fight against climate change.
The NGOs are pushing for greater global taxation of the rich to support over 3.7 billion people—nearly half of the world’s population—living in poverty. On the other end of the scale, Oxfam says that the world’s 3,000 billionaires gained $6.5 trillion (€5.5tr) in wealth over the last ten years.
The current survey, which gathered data across political affiliations, income levels and age groups, was carried out in May 2025 in 13 countries including the UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
The questions aimed to find out the level of public support for taxing the super-rich in order to enable increased government spending on public services, such as healthcare, schools, and renewable investments, among others.
Among the surveyed European countries, Italy showed the most support across all services. The most popular, supported by 94% of the population, was on taxing the super-rich to enable better healthcare. This gained support from 91% of the population in Spain, 90% in France, 89% in the UK and 85% in Germany.

A similarly popular idea was for governments to close loopholes to stop rich people and international corporations from using tax havens and to use the increased tax income to improve public services. 94% of people surveyed in Italy supported this idea, 91% in the UK, 90% in Spain and in France, and 86% in Germany.
The least popular reasons to collect tax from the super-rich included increased renewable investments and improved insulation for houses. In Germany, 18% of people opposed raising taxes on the super-rich to enable increased government spending on renewable energy, with only 75% supporting the idea. In France, 16% opposed and 79% supported and in the UK, 16% opposed and 80% supported. In Spain, the ratio is 15% vs. 81% whereas in Italy it was 10% and 88%.
Supporting improved housing insulation in this context gained the disapproval of 28% in Germany, 22% in Italy and the UK and 20% in France and Spain.
Another study shows similarly wide support to tax those with more means. According to the latest Eurobarometer survey on taxation, 80% of EU citizens said they would support making large multinational companies pay a minimum tax in every country where they operate. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of respondents would support the introduction of a tax for the wealthiest individuals. Support appeared to be the highest in Hungary (78%), Bulgaria and Croatia (both 71%).

Where in Europe already tax the rich?

According to data from the Washington-based international research think tank Tax Foundation, only a minority of European countries apply taxes on the wealthy.
Net wealth taxes, levied on all wealth an individual owns (net of debt), are applied in Norway, Spain and Switzerland, whereas wealth taxes on selected assets exist in France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, Oxfam notes that there’s growing momentum behind a G20 proposal to tax the ultra-rich. The proposal would make individuals with more than $1 billion (€860 million) in wealth pay a minimum amount of tax annually, equal to 2% of their wealth.
Spain also showed its dedication to level inequality when, in July, the country joined forces with Brazil and created a new global coalition to tax the super-rich. The countries also called on others to join the discussion and create a progressive global tax system.
“They point to a stark reality: the wealthiest 1% of the global population owns more than 95% of humanity combined,” said the UN, praising the countries’ move.

  • Pentagon's Bloated, Opaque And Undisciplined Budget Undermines US National Security

Pentagon's Bloated, Opaque And Undisciplined Budget Undermines US National Security

    Submitted by Open The Books

The Pentagon has an annual budget approaching a trillion dollars ($824.5 billion in 2024). While the United States boasts the strongest military in the world, not every dollar of Pentagon spending goes towards furthering national security, and examples of waste, fraud, and abuse abound. In fact, the agency has never passed an annual financial audit. At the same time, interest payments on our national debt ($1.02 trillion annually) now exceed our annual defense budget.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced in March that the department had cancelled over $580 million worth of contracts and program spending related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and decarbonization initiatives. Hegseth followed up in May with $5.1 billion in additional contract cuts for “ancillary things like consulting and other nonessential services,” along with more DEI-related work.

As the administration and Congress consider additional defense spending, and as Americans debate the proper use of the military, auditors must carefully review DOD grants and contracts to assure the American people that their tax dollars are being spent wisely.

Our investigators identified 20 problem areas within DOD that deserve further review and point to broader, systemic problems in Pentagon spending, auditing, and policy that are ripe for reform:

    1) The “Department of Everything” culture

For decades, administrations from both political parties have diverted DOD from what Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth defines as its core “lethality mission.” In 2012, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn published a report entitled the “Department of Everything” that documented how DOD’s mission task list included not only defending the nation but running grocery stores, teaching kindergarten, brewing beer, building windmills and making beef jerky. This culture takes new forms with each administration. For instance, even if the president technically has the constitutional authority to deploy the national guard to support local police departments and immigration enforcement efforts, these activities exist in the outer penumbra of the DOD’s “lethality mission.” The mission of DOD is to deter China, not crime.

    2) Overclassification

In 1997, the Moynihan Commission Report on Protecting and Reducing Government Secrecy declared that “secrecy is the ultimate mode of regulation … for the citizen does not even know that he or she is being regulated.” The DOD’s failure to produce auditable books due, in part, to overclassification is a permanent hidden tax increase on American families that is used to subsidize the agency’s largesse and toleration of fraud, which weakens our national security.

DOD reported $2.4 billion in confirmed fraud in fiscal year 2024, which, according to a May 2025 Government Accountability Office report, “reflects only a small fraction of DOD’s potential fraud exposure.” GAO found systemic issues with fraud reporting, including incomplete data that could not be analyzed. GAO recommended the agency implement data analytics activities and share data between military branches to catch more instances of fraudulent payments. The report states that while estimating savings benefits from such reforms is difficult to estimate, “if DOD prevented even one percent of the value of the confirmed fraud DOD previously reported, DOD could save one hundred million dollars or more over ten years.”

    3) End-of-year spending sprees

A use-it-or-lose-it mindset means agencies go on spending sprees in September, at the end of the fiscal year. This is because agency heads worry that spending less than their budget allows will cause Congress to give them less money the following year. In September 2024, DOD spent $79.1 billion on contracts and grants, including $33.1 billion in the last five working days of the fiscal year. September spending included $6.1 million for raw lobster tail, $16.5 million for ribeye steak, $211.7 million on new furniture, $1.2 million on instruments, and $24.4 million on books, pamphlets, and newspapers.

For context, the $79 billion DOD spent in just one month is more than the annual defense of every country on earth except for four – USA, China, Russia and India. The $33 billion we spent in the last five days of the last fiscal year is more than the $28 billion Israel spent on defense for all of 2023.

    4) “Wish list” budgeting

The Pentagon is legally required to ask for more money than the president requests, which previous Pentagon Comptrollers have said contributes to waste. The Chief of Staff of each military branch must put together an unfunded priority list, or “wish list,” for items not included in the president’s budget. In 2025, the wish list was worth $30.8 billion.

    5) Zero-Star Congressional Spending Generals

The Pentagon budget included at least $22.7 billion in “Congressional Increases” in 2024. “Congressional Increases” is just another term for earmarks, but in this case congressmembers don’t have to put their name on their requests or certify that there is no conflict of interest. The public report only includes increases of $20 million or less. We conducted a Freedom of Information Act request for the others and were told that no records exist.

    6) Questionable travel expenses

Four million transactions worth $1.2 billion were not reviewed for waste and fraud because the officials in charge of reviewing the payments didn’t have access to the payment system. Officials also didn’t check “at least 11,000 transactions totaling over $500,000 made at casino ATMs, a mobile applications store, or bars and nightclubs during holidays or some sporting events.”

    7) Epidemic overcharges

The Pentagon is overcharged on “almost everything” it buys from outside companies – including most of the $23.5 billion of weapons sent to Ukraine since February 2022, former chief contract negotiator Shy Assad told CBS News in May 2023. Overspending doesn’t stop at big-ticket items though. Here’s just one example: the Air Force overpaid by $992,856 for 12 kinds of spare parts, including soap dispensers marked up by 7,943%.

    8) COVID-19 settlements

Hundreds of millions of dollars are expected to be paid out to compensate military service members that were discharged for refusing to take the COVID vaccine. About 8,000-8,400 servicemembers refused to take the vaccine and were forced out of the military in 2021. President Trump ordered reinstatement to be made available to those servicemembers at their former rank, with full back pay, benefits, bonus payments, or other compensation. The exact figure for repayment is not yet known, but it never would have had to have been repaid if soldiers were not compelled to take the vaccine.

    9) Misusing COVID funds

That’s not the end of COVID waste in the military. The Pentagon had a $1 billion fund meant to build a stockpile of medical supplies, but instead was “mostly funneled to defense contractors,” according to The Washington Post, and “used to make things such as jet engine parts, body armor and dress uniforms.” An additional $53.2 million in COVID funds was spent on unrelated items like paint, Wi-Fi, and gym equipment.

    10) Golfing around the globe

While COVID money shouldn’t be used on gym equipment, it makes sense for the military to have equipment for soldiers to exercise. More controversial are the 144 golf courses worldwide owned by the DOD. It recently cost $200 million to renovate just five of them. Although the domestic courses are supposed to be funded with membership fees and other voluntary contributions, the agency has used loopholes in the past to get taxpayer dollars to fund golf course maintenance. The courses abroad have access to federal funding directly.

    11) Far-left pedagogy

The Pentagon’s K-12 school system, called the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), has a budget of $2.3 billion to educate about 67,000 military dependents located near military bases worldwide. In 2022, disturbing video footage of a DoDEA teacher conference emerged, where teachers bragged about hiding “gender” transitions from parents and discussed different ways to inject conversations about race and “privilege” into classroom discussions.

While President Trump’s executive orders on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and biological reality have forbidden DEI and gender ideology at DoDEA and other agencies, Open the Books identified millions of dollars going to DoDEA contractors trafficking in DEI.

    12) No one is minding the “grant” store

While pedagogy is a major problem at DoDEA, so too are cost controls. An Inspector General report from 2021 found systemic issues with how DoDEA monitors its grants, including a finding that DoDEA did not monitor whether or not most (100 out of 139) grantees met interim goals. As a result, the report estimates DoDEA wasted up to $49.9 million from FY 2016-2020 on grantees that did not meet grant terms.

    13) Collaboration with China

Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars have “contributed to China’s technological advancements and military modernization,” according to an audit from the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. One professor who received at least $7.8 million from the U.S. to research metallic hydrogen later accepted a job at the Chinese Academy of Science. He presented his research to the Chinese Academy of Engineering Physics, which designs nuclear warheads for the Chinese government. Overall, 9,000 Pentagon research projects co-authored with people affiliated with the Chinese government have been identified.

    14) Forgotten IOUs

The DOD provides logistics support, supplies, and services to various international partners on a reimbursable basis. A recent DOD Inspector General report outlines how, over the past ten years, the agency provided $268.1 million in services and supplies without the necessary assurance that it would be reimbursed. The report notes that costs to international partners are not always appropriately tracked or billed.

    15) Missing or abandoned equipment

The United States left over $7 billion in equipment behind during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, including 78 aircraft, 40,000 vehicles, and 300,000 weapons. While the DOD was pilloried in the press for leaving its valuable weaponry behind, more recent reports show another $1 billion worth of weapons are not being properly tracked in Ukraine.

The audit found that $1 billion of the $1.7 billion – or 59% — of weapons provided to Ukraine as of June 2023 are “delinquent,” meaning they can’t be accounted for in inventory reports. These weapons are supposed to be tracked under a new “enhanced end-use monitoring” system. Maybe the weapons are being used properly; maybe they have been stolen. No one can be completely sure.

    16) Uncontrolled contract spending

Not only does DOD have problems tracking weapons, but yet another report indicates Army contracting personnel did not manage $4.2 billion worth of cost-reimbursable contracts reviewed by the Inspector General’s office in accordance with DOD policies. These contracts are particularly ripe for abuse because contract terms, specifications, and prices are not agreed upon before the contractor undertakes the work; rather they are just reimbursed later. Eighteen of 24 contracts reviewed by the Inspector General continued to be reimbursed after the deadline for a proposal to definitize the costs had passed.

    17) Mounting repair bills

A GAO report from March 2025 found the DOD had $271 billion of deferred maintenance costs, essentially the value of repairs to aging buildings. DOD accounts for three quarters of all deferred maintenance across federal agencies. Some military barracks are at risk of sewage overflow and have fire safety systems that do not function, according to the GAO. The GAO made recommendations that include working with the General Services Agency in order to dispose of underutilized spaces to discharge deferred maintenance costs.

    18) Lost business for American companies?

The United States government purchases an average of $5.2 billion of military supplies from foreign countries each year, but the Pentagon and Department of Commerce “haven’t fully determined whether the agreements help or hurt U.S. industry,” according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office.

DOD has Reciprocal Defense Procurement Agreements with 28 countries. The agreements supersede the Buy American Act, which requires federal agencies to buy most supplies from U.S. manufacturers. Since 2018, the DOD “has skipped important due diligence steps for entering into and renewing” its 28 agreements, according to the GAO. Without this due diligence, it is unclear if American industry could have benefitted more from these contracts instead.

    19) AI funds without a purpose

As of last year, the DOD did not know how it would use artificial intelligence in its daily operations, despite receiving $1.8 billion for that purpose in the FY 2024 budget.

According to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the DOD ”couldn’t fully identify” exactly how it planned to use AI at the time of the report or into the future. There was no way for the DOD to know which human positions can or will be replaced with AI or to estimate how much additional funding would needed. This confusion raises questions for how funds allocated to DOD AI spending will be used going forward.

    20) F-35 fighter jets

The military is projected to pay over $2 trillion to weapons manufacturer Lockheed Martin for its F-35 fighter jets, the most expensive weapons program in history. F-35s were originally intended to be cheap and efficient to fit with decreasing military budgets after the Cold War. But the fighter jets are only able to perform tasks 55% of the time – not 90% as intended.

    CONCLUSION

These examples go well beyond individual instance of wasteful spending decisions: They demonstrate systemic bloat at the Pentagon that requires significant improvements to processes and performance. As we continue debating ways in which we may further extend our military might, and expand the role of the military, it’s critical the Pentagon finally takes necessary steps to get current costs under control.

Germany’s New Fiscal Playbook: Defense, Infrastructure, and a Gasp of Reform

Why the Grown‑Ups Think Germany Is a Super‑hero

When the fresh‑in‑power coalition in Germany announced a hefty boost for defense and roads in March, many pundits felt Europe was safe from the looming trade war. “If things go south, Germany will simply issue a boatload of debt and rescue everyone,” the usual line went.

    What’s Really Inside the Budget?

Goldman Sachs European economist Niklas Garnadt says the truth is a bit less dazzling. Besides the big splash in armaments, the German agreement offers only a modest lift for competitiveness. “It’s a castle in the sky,” he points out.

    Key Takeaways

    • Defense Spending – A major focus, but it will take years to redirect money into the sector and is largely isolated.
    • Infrastructure Boost – Significant earmarked funds for roads, bridges and digital nets.
    • Structural Reform – Barely any fresh measures – the plan leans on the old, proven tactics.
    • Competitiveness Tweak – A small bump over the next few years, hard to show big differences.

    Recent Coalition Huddle

Just last week, the conservative CDU and the social democratic SPD sealed their coalition. Their pledge: improve Germany’s competitiveness, which has lagged in both productivity and investment in recent years. Yet the actual strategy feels like a stiff handout with little push for real transformation.

    What Should Europe Expect?

Expect a steady stream of defense budgets and a few infrastructure projects, but the kind of sweeping reforms that could truly ignite the economy might still be a long way off.

  • Building a business through acquisition

    Building a business through acquisition

Growth: the act or process, or manner of growing. In business, that act or process of increasing in size, revenue, market share, or profitability is vital – particularly in the current economic climate, which is testing the resolve of even the strongest businesses.

There are various types of business growth, including organic, when a company creates the right conditions for expansion; strategic, which focuses on long-term growth through specific initiatives; as well as through acquisitions.
The latter is often referred to as ‘buy and build’ – a concept that sounds straightforward in nature. You acquire a company and, with it, increase your value and grow the business. Easy, right?
Yes, it can be a highly effective way of reaching your strategic objectives in a relatively short amount of time, but it’s not always an easy investment thesis to get right. Each business you buy has a different culture and geographical spread, therefore, the transition of two becoming one requires time and careful consideration. You have to work hard to integrate what you’ve bought.
However, when executed correctly, buy and build can help to accelerate growth – whether that’s adding complementary products, services or skills to your proposition, expanding your geographical footprint, opening the door to new markets, or deepening your sector presence. Typically, it can deliver the sort of growth that could take three to five years to achieve organically.
So, what do businesses need to consider when going down the route of buy and build as part of an overall expansion strategy?

    Organic comes first

For buy and build to be successful, it should also complement an organic growth strategy. Without the right foundations in place, a buy and build plan is less likely to succeed. Businesses at their root need to be well-managed, well-capitalised and already delivering strong organic growth. As such, focus on the fundamentals and the rest will come.

    Planning and strategy

Making the right buying decisions, at the right price, takes planning. Having an appetite for growth is one thing, but unless you create a road map and bring the future into the present, then your desire to accelerate growth is likely to fail. Be very clear what your objectives are from the beginning and what’s important to you as an individual and for the company. Emphasis should be placed on establishing a value proposition, understanding how defensible you are in the wider market, and the key opportunities and risk facing the business.

    Funding ambition

Raising finance to fund your vision is a critical step in the process of buy and build. Funding options vary from business loans to debt finance, private equity and even crowdfunding. Whatever route you choose, finding the most suitable investor who fits with the culture and strategic aims of the business is hugely important. At the core of raising finance is building a relationship with your investor. Make sure they understand what your business stands for and equally that they want to safeguard it. At the same time, consider their approach and if that fits with yours – whether that’s hands off, when needed, one that’s supportive in nature, or one that’s more entrenched in your business. Trust is key.

    Hitting the right target

When sourcing potential acquisition targets, it’s essential to carry out thorough due diligence to ensure there are no unexpected problems or unforeseen liabilities down the track. This includes making sure you request full disclosure on all financial and operational aspects of the business you are looking to acquire. Ultimately, when integrating an acquired company, you want to achieve sales and costs synergies that will support future growth, so it’s essential you do your homework so you don’t get saddled with a company that drains you of both time and money.

    Market potential

A buy and build strategy will only be a success in a market where there’s space for consolidation. If your target market has experienced rapid consolidation in recent years, with large well-established participants buying up smaller companies and rivals, it can make it more difficult for new entrants to grow by acquisition and build a business of scale.

    Timing is everything

Knowing when the time is right is crucial. Is your business at that ‘step-change’ moment? Has it achieved sufficient scale and is trading in such a way that it provides enough width and depth to allow a management team to accelerate growth? It’s easy to underestimate the management bandwidth required to scale a business at pace. Does your strategy require a dedicated integration team? Are there enough middle managers to handle each newly acquired site or business? And does the senior management team have the capacity to execute a seamless acquisition plan while continuing to run the business day to day? If you get your timings wrong, there’s a danger that you won’t have the right team or processes in place to achieve your aims.
There’s no doubt that buy and build is an effective method for ambitious, entrepreneurial businesses looking to scale up – and scale up quickly. Yes, it only works when the opposing parts fit together and complement one another. But, in a short space of time, you can achieve scale through careful and strategic additions. What’s more, the last few years of economic uncertainty have done little to dampen the intent of businesses. Why? Because innovative businesses that take a more risk-welcoming approach, choosing to embrace growth in the face of adversity, are the ones that have and will continue to flourish.

Gigi Hadid Braless: Photos of the Model Not Wearing a Bra

When it comes to fashionable celebrities, Gigi Hadid most definitely tops the list! The longtime supermodel never fails to dazzle on the red carpet, runway and beyond, including some bold braless looks over the years.
Gigi, who shares daughter Khai with ex Zayn Malik, has a passion for style outside of her career. “I feel like more recently I’m really dressing for myself and not for the world and for what people expect me to wear. I really try to wake up in the morning and put something on that excites me and motivates me to have a fun day,” the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star previously told Elle Australia. “And I think having great clothes and shoes and fun colors and great craftsmanship can really bring inspiration to an outfit.”Gigi Hadid Braless: Photos of the Model Not Wearing a Bra

Gig’s illustrious modeling career began when she was just two years old. The Los Angeles native was discovered by Paul Marciano of Guess and began working with Baby Guess. However, Gigi put her career on hold to focus on school. That said, during her first year of college at The New School in New York City, she also signed to IMG Models.
After gaining notoriety, Gigi’s wardrobe changed, but her philosophy on fashion remained the same. “When I moved to New York from California and started school I was very much still wearing my high school wardrobe. Especially because I was going to university and also working and then going straight from class to the gym it was very athleisure. I’d always mix my workout clothes with a cool statement jacket and bag and then I’d have my trainers in my purse and would wear a cool boot and that was how I would go to school,” she explained.Gigi Hadid Braless: Photos of the Model Not Wearing a Bra

“I think my style has always been like that — great basics that I think fit well, and then I love statement pieces that are a little wild,” Gigi added. “Now, I get to wear a lot cooler clothes, I am really lucky to get to play with clothes in that way, but I always want to be comfortable. • Seoul-based Datumo raises $15.5M to take on Scale AI, backed by Salesforce

Most organizations say they aren’t fully prepared to use generative AI in a safe and responsible way, according to a recent McKinsey report. One concern is explainability — understanding how and why AI makes certain decisions. While 40% of respondents view it as a significant risk, only 17% are actively addressing it, per the report.

Seoul-based Datumo began as an AI data labeling company and now wants to help businesses build safer AI with tools and data that enable testing, monitoring, and improving their models — without requiring technical expertise. On Monday the startup raised $15.5 million, which brings its total raised to approximately $28 million, from investors including Salesforce Ventures, KB Investment, ACVC Partners, and SBI Investment, among others.

David Kim, CEO of Datumo and a former AI researcher at Korea’s Agency for Defense Development, was frustrated by the time-consuming nature of data labeling so he came up with a new idea: a reward-based app that lets anyone label data in their spare time and earn money. The startup validated the idea at a startup competition at KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). Kim co-founded Datumo, formerly known as SelectStar, alongside five KAIST alumni in 2018.

Even before the app was fully built, Datumo secured tens of thousands of dollars in pre-contract sales during the customer discovery phase of the competition, mostly from KAIST alumni-led businesses and startups.

In its first year, the startup surpassed $1 million in revenue and secured several key contracts. Today, the startup counts major Korean companies like Samsung, Samsung SDS, LG Electronics, LG CNS, Hyundai, Naver, and Seoul-based telecom giant SK Telecom among its clients. Several years ago, however, clients began asking the company to go beyond simple data labeling. The 7-year-old startup now has more than 300 clients in South Korea and generated about $6 million in revenue in 2024.

“They wanted us to score their AI model outputs or compare them to other outputs,” Michael Hwang, co-founder of Datumo, told TechCrunch. “That’s when we realized: We were already doing AI model evaluation — without even knowing it.” Datumo doubled down on this area and released Korea’s first benchmark dataset focused on AI trust and safety, Hwang added.

“We started in data annotation, then expanded into pretraining datasets and evaluation as the LLM ecosystem matured,” Kim told TechCrunch.

Meta’s recent $14.3 billion acquisition-like investment in data-labeling company Scale AI highlights the importance of this market. Shortly after that deal, AI model maker and Meta competitor OpenAI stopped using Scale AI’s services. The Meta deal also signals that competition for AI training data is intensifying.

Datumo shares some similarities with companies like Scale AI in pretraining dataset provisioning, and with Galileo and Arize AI in AI evaluation and monitoring. However, it differentiates itself through its licensed datasets, particularly data crawled from published books, which the company says offers rich structured human reasoning but is notoriously difficult to clean, according to CEO Kim.

Unlike its peers, Datumo also offers a full-stack evaluation platform called Datumo Eval, which automatically generates test data and evaluations to check for unsafe, biased or incorrect responses without the need for manual scripting, Kim added. The signature product is a no-code evaluation tool designed for non-developers like those on policy, trust and safety, and compliance teams.

When asked about attracting investors like Salesforce Ventures, Kim explained that the startup had previously hosted a fireside chat with Andrew Ng, founder of DeepLearning.AI, at an event in South Korea. After the event, Kim shared the session on LinkedIn, which caught the attention of Salesforce Ventures. Following several meetings and Zoom calls, the investors extended a soft commitment. The entire funding process took about eight months, Hwang said.

The new funding will be used to accelerate R&D efforts, particularly in developing automated evaluation tools for enterprise AI, and to scale global go-to-market operations across South Korea, Japan, and the U.S. The startup, which has 150 employees in Seoul, also established a presence in Silicon Valley in March.

S&P Reaffirms U.S. Credit Rating, Citing Tariff Revenues Amid Fiscal Pressures

S&P Global Ratings affirmed the United States’ sovereign credit ratings, saying tariff revenues under the Trump administration’s new trade policies should help cushion the fiscal impact of recent tax and spending legislation.

The ratings agency kept the U.S. at AA+/A-1+ with a stable outlook.

“The stable outlook indicates our expectation that although fiscal deficit outcomes won’t meaningfully improve, we don’t project a persistent deterioration over the next several years,” S&P said in its statement.

The firm pointed to broad economic resilience, policy continuity, and strong revenue streams, including what it described as “robust tariff income” – as offsets to fiscal slippage stemming from legislative changes. While acknowledging concerns that tariffs could dampen business confidence, growth, and hiring while spurring inflation, S&P said revenue gains would help balance the ledger, WSJ reports.

The agency’s decision comes against the backdrop of a $5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling and projections that net general government debt will approach 100% of gross domestic product, driven by “structurally rising non-discretionary interest and aging-related expenditure.”

S&P cited several strengths underpinning the rating, including the resilience of the U.S. economy, effective monetary policy, and a deficit trajectory that, while elevated, isn’t accelerating.

    USA sovereign credit risk, meanwhile…

Yet the firm also noted risks…

Bipartisan cooperation to strengthen the U.S. fiscal profile – namely to meaningfully lower deficits and tackle budgetary rigidities – remains elusive,” S&P said.

The agency warned that the outlook could turn negative if deficits widen further due to political stalemates or if revenue losses from tax policy changes aren’t contained. It also flagged the independence of the Federal Reserve as a critical factor.

We could lower the rating over the next two to three years if already high deficits increase, reflecting political inability to contain rising spending or to manage revenue implications from changes in the tax code,” S&P said. “The ratings could also come under pressure if political developments weigh on the strength of American institutions and the effectiveness of long-term policymaking or independence of the Federal Reserve.”

Any erosion in institutional credibility, the agency added, could eventually imperil the dollar’s status as the world’s leading reserve currency—a key pillar of U.S. credit strength.

Micro1, a competitor to Scale AI, raises funds at $500M valuation

Micro1, a three-year-old startup that helps AI companies find and manage human contractors for data labeling and training, has raised a $35 million Series A funding round that values the company at $500 million. The round was led by 01 Advisors, a venture capital firm co-founded by Dick Costolo and Adam Bain, the former CEO and COO of Twitter.

The startup is one of many companies looking to fill the gap in the data market created by recent changes involving Scale AI. After Meta invested $14 billion in Scale AI and hired its CEO, AI labs, including OpenAI and Google, said they planned to cut ties with the startup, presumably over concerns that their research could end up in Meta’s hands. (Scale AI denies that it shares confidential information with Meta as part of its partnership.)

However, AI labs still need these data services, and startups like Micro1 aim to pick up the slack.

Micro1 CEO Ali Ansari — who is just 24 years old — tells TechCrunch that his company has been working with leading AI labs, including Microsoft, as well as several Fortune 100 companies. Ansari said Micro1 is now generating $50 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR), up from $7 million at the start of 2025.

That’s still a far cry from larger competitors like Mercor, which is generating more than $450 million in ARR, and Surge, which reportedly brought in $1.2 billion in 2024. However, Micro1’s growth and adoption among AI labs seems to be growing at a healthy rate.

As part of the new funding, Micro1 is also adding Bain to its board of directors, alongside Joshua Browder, founder and CEO of the AI legal assistant DoNotPay.

“Really the only way models are now learning is through net new human data. Micro1 is at the core of providing that data to all frontier labs, while moving at speeds I’ve never seen before,” Bain said in a statement to TechCrunch.

Reuters previously reported details of Micro1’s fundraising efforts.

All these companies — Micro1, Surge, Mercor, and Scale AI — supply AI labs with access to a large base of human contractors who can label and generate data for AI training. It’s become a crucial service that companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, and Google need to build cutting-edge AI models.

Scale AI was first to dominate this space, with the initial insight that it could pay relatively little for low-skilled contractors around the world to help label data for AI model training. However, Ansari says that the demands of AI labs have shifted in recent years and that companies now need high-quality data labeling from domain experts — such as senior software engineers, doctors, and professional writers — to improve their AI models. The hard part became recruiting these types of folks.

This led Micro1 to build its AI recruiter, Zara, which interviews and vets candidates who apply to work as one of the company’s contractors, or as Ansari calls them, experts. Micro1 says Zara has recruited thousands of experts — including professors from Stanford and Harvard — and that the company plans to add hundreds more every week.

The market for AI training data appears to be changing yet again. Now, many AI labs are interested in working with startups to develop “environments” — virtual workspaces that can be used to train AI agents on simulated tasks. Ansari says Micro1 is building new offerings in the environments space to meet this demand.

Luckily for startups like Micro1, AI labs seem to be working with multiple training data providers. The nature of the business is such that it’s difficult for any one company to handle all of one AI lab’s data needs. That means there’s plenty of business to go around, at least for now.

  • The Dark Blueprint: How Swapping Wealthy Citizens with Illegal Immigrants Can Crumble a State

The Dark Blueprint: How Swapping Wealthy Citizens with Illegal Immigrants Can Crumble a State

Illinois: A Money‑Pit That Keeps Pulling the Rich Out

    What’s Happening Under the Hood?

When the state’s politicians decide to roll out the welcome mat for all kinds of folks—especially those with lower incomes—they’re accidentally letting the big‑spenders slip away. The result? A serious drain on Illinois’ wallet.

    • Luckily, the state is best served by attracting the wealthy—a sweet spot that brings in tax dollars and opens jobs.
    • Instead, legislators keep favoring commuters and migrants with flagging income potential.

Mass Migration: The Numbers That Matter

Take a look at who’s actually moving in and out of Illinois.

    • 2022 Movers: 156,000 people decided to pack up and leave. Their average earning was a solid $124,000 a year.
    • Those newcomers tally up to 111,000 and bring in an average income of just $86,000.

The $38,000 gap per person is screaming louder each year. Back in 2010, the difference was only about $5,500. Today, Illinois is inadvertently turning into a magnet for the less affluent while the wealthy get bumped out.

    Why This is a Problem

    1. Tax Revenue Loss – The state’s coffers get lighter because fewer high earners contribute more in taxes.
    2. Job Market Impact – Wealthier residents often host businesses that offer higher wages and better opportunities.
    3. Social Services Strain – An influx of people with lower incomes puts extra pressure on public services.
    The Bottom Line

Illinois is on a trajectory that’s becoming a money‑vacuum rather than a prosperity engine. Leaders have a chance to change course—by tightening policies that actually encourage economic growth for the state’s bright core talent.

Illinois is Losing Big Time…and It’s Not Just About the Buzzard’s Flight

Picture this: Illinois has sent over 45,000 tax filers sky‑hopping out of the state in 2022. If you add their families and folks who depend on them, that’s a whopping 87,000 people waving goodbye. If you’re scared, remember that about 90,000 residents disappeared yearly in 2019, 2020 and 2021—so the bad news isn’t new.

Now, put a dollar sign to those numbers and you’ll see how the state’s coffers feel the pinch.

    What the Numbers Actually Mean

    • 2022 income loss: Illinois was left with nearly $10 billion less revenue than it could have collected, thanks to people taking up residence elsewhere. (See Appendix B for details on the exact drop in taxable income.)
    • Ongoing drain: That hit isn’t a one‑time thing—over several years, the tax base has been chipping away at Wisconsin’s net worth.

    Illinois Leaders’ “Comforting” Insurance

“Don’t worry,” the governors and mayors say. “Our population finally started creeping up again!”

They’re being honest about the spike in illegal immigration that’s been rewriting the state’s demographics.

The Real Reason New Faces are Flooding In

Illinois used to welcome about 25,000 new legal international migrants each year before the Biden administration opened the Southern border. Suddenly, that number skyrocketed:

    • 2022 – 61,000 new arrivals
    • 2023 – 93,000
    • 2024 – a jaw‑dropping 113,000—all in a single calendar year!

Why the surge? Chicago’s “sanctuary status” and the whole “open borders” vibe made the city a magnet for folks seeking a fresh start—or, frankly, a new place for that illegal move.

    Bottom Line

Illinois is still on a downward spiral with its tax base, because the people who’re inviting a new wave of migration are also sulking up to a better life elsewhere. The state’s budget now looks a lot thinner, and its leaders are scrambling to convince the public that the slide is “just a temporary dip.” Their pitch? The arrival of a thriving immigrant community—though the numbers don’t lie—doesn’t counterbalance the economic bleed-out caused by those leaving. So, when you hear the heartening news about a growing population, remember: it’s a pop‑culture upgrade, not a hard‑won comeback on the tax ledger.

Why Illinois Is Losing Its Groove (and How It Can Get It Back)

“The state is basically a salad of people going out and a handful of folks staying behind. It’s not exactly a recipe for a booming economy,” says a keen Wirepoints reader. He’s got a point—while the middle‑class movers and the affluent expatriates find greener pastures, most of the new immigrants might just wind up sticking around. That mix is a killer for Illinois’s growth.

    What the Numbers are Saying

    • Job creation… The state has been hand‑cuffing itself—no new positions for anyone.
    • Unemployment… It’s hovering at a high that would make any policymakers sweat.
    • Growth… Only the 4th‑worst in the nation since 2019.

Clearly, Illinois is feeling the pinch. Moves out, deposits in, businesses belly‑ache, and the kitty just isn’t filling up.

One Simple Fix? New Faces in the Legislature

It’s not about tightening the budget or upping tariffs. It’s about the people you put in charge—lawmakers who truly put Illinois residents first. A fresh, ambitious class could flip the script and finally breathe life back into the state’s economy.

    Appendix A. Quick Recap
    1. People leaving = a drain on potential.
    2. Low job growth and high unemployment = economic stagnation.
    3. Vote for lawmakers who prioritize the state’s residents.
